COLUMBUS, Ohio — Health experts in Ohio are growing concerned as the highly infectious Delta variant spreads.
Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff, Chief Medical Officer for the Ohio Department of Health said during a press conference Wednesday, “Based on the trends we’re seeing, it’s clear that the Delta variant is on the rise in Ohio.”
Officials with the World Health Organization say that the Delta strain is the fastest spreading variant thus far.
In Ohio, from June 6 to June 19, the Delta variant accounted for nearly 15% of all new positive cases, according to the Ohio Department of Health.
Experts say that the method of transmission is the same as other Coronavirus varients. An individual becomes infected by either breathing in infected droplets or touching an infected surface.
Dr. Vanderhoff encourages those who have not been vaccinated to continue wearing a mask.
