ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — Ross County Sheriff George Lavender is warning residents of a phone scam within the county.
In an online statement, the Sheriff said, “My office has been made aware of another scam going around. This one involves people receiving phone calls from someone claiming they are from the Ross County Jury Commission. They tell the victim they missed jury duty and a warrant is going to be issued for their arrest.”
The Sheriff continued by saying, that the caller instructs the individual to purchase pre-paid debit cards and to call the scammers with the card’s numbers in order to recall the fake warrant.
Sheriff Lavender reminds residents to never give out their financial information over the phone, and that the courts never call residents to tell them of a warrant.
