ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — Autocross racing returns to the Ross County Fairgrounds after a 2020 hiatus.
The single-day event is scheduled for August 13.
Autocross has become one of the area’s most popular summer attractions. The event hosts multiple vehicle classes, from small cars to large 4×4 trucks that race down the course in search of victory.
The Guardian got to sit down and talk with one of this year’s rookie drivers.
Shane Hicks, 26, Londonderry, is a hard-working father of two small children, and this year will be his first time participating in the event.
Hicks said why he wanted to give Autocross a try this year.
“I have a few friends that run it every year, and they kind of turned me on to the event a while back,” he said. “It has just been something I have wanted to try, and I promised my wife’s aunt before she passed away that I would go for it.”
Hicks will be driving the number 214 in the Autocross race. When asked what he thought of the Guardian sponsoring his car, Hicks said, “I have always been a follower of the Guardian. It is about the only place where you can find real news around here.”
The Autocross event starts on August 13, at 7 p.m.
