CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Chillicothe Halloween Festival returns this year after a 2020 hiatus due to COVID-19.
Organizers of the event announced that registration is open for those wishing to compete in the 2021 Coffin Race.
The contest is for teams who have made their own homemade coffins.
The race is a side-by-side competition that runs down the center of Yoctangee Park. The winner, according to officials, is determined by the coffin with the fastest time.
“The Coffin Race event is such a fun part of the Festival with all of the participating teams racing their fun and creative coffins through the park,” said Adam Days, contest coordinator. Day added, “Many of the spectators line up early just to ensure that they get a good spot to see the fun play out. We’re excited to bring this contest back to the Festival and hope that more teams register to race this year.”
With the popularity of the event, local businesses will have the opportunity to join in the fun this year. This event is an “excellent way to support the community”, city officials said.

Organizers encourage residents to bring their families for a spooky good time.
