JACKSON COUNTY, Ohio — In Jackson County, the north and southbound lanes of route 93 are closed after a fatal wreck.

According to emergency crews, multiple vehicles were involved in an accident that occurred shortly before 4 p.m. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) says the highway is shut down between Evans Road and Erwin Road on route 93.

Officials on the scene requested a medical helicopter.

Troopers with the Ohio Highway Patrol confirmed that one person was tragically killed in the crash.

Authorities ask that motorists choose a different route as crews work to clear the scene.

There was no estimated time given for the highway to be reopened.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The names of those involved and the extent of any injuries was not immediately released.
