CHILLICOTHE, Ohio– A man was run over by a car following an altercation with another individual, according to Chillicothe Police.
Police responded to Wetzel Drive Thursday on a disorderly conduct complaint.
The officers said a witness informed them that a man had been run over repeatedly by a vehicle.
According to reports, the driver of the vehicle returned to the residence after the incident. Chillicothe Police on the scene told the individual, later identified as Jacob Holland, to shut the car off and get out.
Holland told police that he was there to see one of his friends. That is when, Holland says, another man exited the home and tried to start a fight with him.
Witnesses nearby reported that they heard the two men yelling. One person said Holland got into his vehicle, striking the victim and then running him over as he was trying to crawl away. Chillicothe medics transported the victim to Adena Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Authorities arrested Jacob Holland, 27, on felonious assault charges.
Officers with the Chillicothe Police continued to question Holland, who said the victim pulled a knife out and tried to stab him.
Holland went on to say that he got into his car and tried to leave, but the victim was still trying to attack him.
During the interview, officials say Mr. Holland didn’t know how many times he pulled forward and put the car in reverse because he was “fearful for his safety.”
Additional witness statements, officials say, confirmed the victim’s story. Those individuals said that the victim did have a knife but had discarded it before the initial altercation.
Jacob Holland remains in the Ross County Jail on a $15,000 bond. Authorities have not released any additional information regarding the assault.
