ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A Ross County man is on the run today after police say he tried to slash his cousin with a machete.
The Ross County Sheriff’s Office responded to Sugar Tree Road Monday on reports of an assault.
Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene and spoke with a man who said his cousin attacked him after defending his cousin’s pregnant girlfriend. The man said that his cousin had a history of domestic violence and did not want to see the pregnant woman assaulted.
Reports say there was a physical altercation between the two cousins when the other went to his vehicle and grabbing, what the victim described as a machete.
The male victim told law enforcement that his cousin swung the machete multiple times before placing it against his chest, threatening to kill him. The suspect then grabbed the pregnant woman, according to reports, forcing her into the vehicle. The suspect, according to witnesses, swung the machete out of the car window, cutting the male victim in the chest.
The pregnant female told deputies that her boyfriend drove her to a local grocery store and began assaulting her. The victim stated her boyfriend also stole her EBT card before leaving her at the store.
The name of the suspect was not immediately released. A warrant, officials say, has been requested for his arrest. The case remains under investigation.
