CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A truck driver passing through Chillicothe told police that a group of men threatened him with a gun.
Chillicothe Police responded to the East Main Street, Pilot Truck Stop, last week.
Upon arrival, police spoke with the trucker, who said a group of men in a red Chevy pickup had threatened him with a large rifle. The driver told police that he was turning his 18-wheeler into the lot when the pickup nearly hit his semi. According to the truck driver, he rolled down his window to yell at the individuals in the vehicle when one of the men rolled down their window, pulled out an AR-15 rifle, and pointed it at him.
Reports say the truck driver feared for his safety and grabbed his own firearm, but the men pulled away.
Additional officers responded to the scene and began searching for the red pickup truck and its occupants.
While driving through the truck stop parking lot, police located a vehicle matching the description given by the truck driver. Officers approached the pickup and noticed an AR-15 rifle propped up against the center console near the passenger side of the vehicle.
Reports say that the rifle was unloaded, but at the scene police stated that the occupants of the vehicle had large amounts of money in their pockets, as well as a bottle of cough syrup with the label removed. A magazine with five rounds of ammo was also found by police in the vehicle’s glove box.
Officials say the truck driver was able to provide dashcam footage of the incident.
The individuals, reports said, denied any wrongdoing. Police told the suspects that they had seen video of the incident. It was at that time, officers said, those inside the pickup truck refused to answer any more questions.
Authorities say the case is still under investigation, but charges will be forthcoming. The gun involved was confiscated by police and placed into evidence.
No further details were immediately available.
