CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Is the Carlisle Hill Star overlooking the city of Chillicothe coming down? Local residents have taken to social media about an online posting that said the star was being removed.
Residents across the area have become concerned that the star that shines brightly during the holiday season will be taken down following two recently shared Facebook posts. The postings have circulated across local social media, inciting a firestorm of concern.
In one post, a screenshot of a supposedly live video of the Carlisle Hill Star was being shared with a headline that said, “all non-christian churches have unanimously decided to have the star removed.” In a second Facebook post, a picture of a piece of heavy equipment was lowering down what the original poster said was the “star”.
The Guardian decided to look into these rumors to see if there was any validity to them.
According to Chillicothe Mayor Luke Feeney, the claims of the star coming down are completely false. “The star is lit once again this year, and there is no plan to ever stop that tradition.”
Editors with the Guardian looked into the images used in the Facebook posts and found that both images were taken from various local media sources. The images used did not belong to the individual making the false claims.
The community can put their minds at ease; the star on the hill is not coming down.
