ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A local Ross County pharmacist has been indicted on over a dozen felony drug charges.
According to court records obtained by the Guardian, Matthew Knisley was indicted on 19 felony counts of cocaine possession. Investigators said Knisley purchased “pure cocaine HCL crystals,” a schedule 2 controlled substance, “for his personal use,” on multiple occasions from 2018 through November of this year. After a lengthy investigation, officials said they submitted their findings to the Ross County Prosecutor’s Office. The case was later presented to the grand jury for formal charges.
Before his indictment, on June 29, the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy voted to temporarily suspend Knisley’s pharmacist license after allegations started to swirl about possible illegal drug use.
The state pharmacy board said, “After hearing the significant facts regarding the activities of pharmacist Matthew Knisley, the board summarily suspends the pharmacist license belonging to Matthew Knisley.”
In November, the board reconvened to suspend his license indefinitely.
Knisley, according to his online profile, opened Knisley Pharmacy, located off of Western Avenue in Chillicothe, in December 2007.
A court date has yet to be set in his case. If convicted, he could face several years in prison.
No further details were immediately available, and the case is still under investigation.
