ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A local student faces serious charges after investigators say he made threats against his school on the popular social media site Snapchat.

On February 2, deputies with the Ross County Sheriff’s Office were notified by Zane Trace principal, Tyler Wertman, of threats made online by a student.

Wertman told deputies that a student had received a message that said another student was planning on “shooting up” the school. When asked in the Snapchat message if the teen would kill everyone, they responded, “Yeah, none of them deserve a life. Hell, I don’t either, so why let ’em’ keep living.”

Deputies made contact with the student and their parents. In the report obtained by the Guardian, the student confessed to making the online threat.

The student was arrested at their home and was taken into custody, charged with inducing panic and aggravated menacing.

Principal Wertman informed law enforcement that the student is not permitted to return to school for the rest of the year and will remain on remote learning.
