CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A man had to have his leg amputated on Thursday after a serious crash in Chillicothe involving a deputy sheriff and motorcycle.
It happened in the area of Main Street and Bridge Street Wednesday afternoon. Crash reports state that Jeremy Hodapp was riding his motorcycle on Main Street and was turning into an alley. That’s when a woman stopped her car and motioned for him to turn in front of her. Unfortunately, because it was a four-lane street, a deputy sheriff was driving in the lane next to the woman and did not know why she was stopped and continued to pass her. That’s when Hodapp turned and was hit broadsided by the cruiser.
Hodapp was flown to a Columbus area hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to have his leg amputated. His family said he is awake and aware of what happened.
“They had to give him more blood last night to help stabilize his hemoglobin,” his sister said. “They are going to try to take him off the blood pressure meds today and hopefully get his tubes out. He has been awake and is aware that his leg has been amputated.”
Officers with the Chillicothe police department said the motorcyclist was at-fault for failing to yield to oncoming traffic.
