JACKSON COUNTY, Ohio — A traffic stop in Jackson County leads to the seizure of illegal drugs and a gun.
Jackson County Sheriff Tedd E. Fraziers said his deputies stopped a Columbus man Monday for a speeding violation along route 35. Upon approaching the vehicle, the deputies said, they noticed a strong odor of marijuana.
The Jackson County Canine Unit was used during the stop and indicated the presence of narcotics.
The driver of the vehicle, Shuron Howard of Westerville, and passenger Dae’shaun Martin, were searched by deputies.
According to the sheriff, deputies found a loaded handgun on Martin. Upon further investigation, law enforcement found marijuana, Xanax (a narcotic used to treat anxiety and panic disorders), heroin, and other paraphernalia indicative of drug trafficking.
Martin was arrested at the scene and transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility on multiple drug-related charges. Deputies released Shuron Howard with a verbal warning.
