CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A Chillicothe police officer was injured while pursuing a wanted subject within the city.
According to reports, Chillicothe Police Officer Christopher Claytor was patrolling the east-end neighborhood around Douglas Avenue and Akron Street on Monday. That is when Officer Claytor said he noticed a suspicious person walking down the road.
Claytor said he approached the man, who, he said, seemed nervous. The individual, reports say, continued walking toward Gilmore Street when Officer Claytor attempted to stop him. Officials said the man then ran, leading the officer on a foot pursuit.
Claytor said he and the suspect ran through multiple backyards, jumping over fences and running into barbed wire. Although Claytor suffered cuts on his hands due to the fencing, he was able to apprehend the suspect. Brett Elder, 24, was arrested for obstruction. A check of the man’s name revealed two outstanding warrants. Elder remains in the Ross County Jail.
Officer Claytor was treated at the scene by medics for his injuries.
