ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — For the second time in the county’s history, a woman has been sworn in as the Auditor of Ross County.
Robyn L. Brewster took the oath on Wednesday at the Ross County Courthouse. Her appointment comes after the county’s Democratic Party voted to fill the vacancy left by retiring Auditor Tom Spetnagel.
“Tuesday’s vote by the members of the Democratic Central Committee on International Women’s Day to appoint me Auditor was quite an honor,” Brewster told the Guardian. “After the appointment, I thanked the members for their vote and for believing in me.”
Brewster, who lives in the city, had served as deputy auditor for the county before her nomination.
“Tuesday evening my father who resides in Bristol Village Nursing Facility in Waverly made sure I received the same Bible that my mom used when she was sworn in as Pike County Recorder. My dad and I embraced for a big hug and of course, there were a few tears.”
Brewster was sworn in by County Recorder Katy Dunn.
Retired Auditor Tom Spetnagel serves as the county’s Democratic Chairman. After the vote, he was gleaning with a smile.
“I am proud that our party unanimously selected Robyn Brewster as my successor in the Auditor’s office. During my time working with Robyn (from January until my departure), I found her to be extremely intelligent, personable, and eager to learn. Best of all, she was there to work rather than to play politics” Spetnagel said. “Although candidates run with a party label, the Auditor’s job is not about party politics — it is about consistently showing up and working hard; helping residents who may have different values or beliefs than you do; and being a servant of the people rather than an ideologue. Those are all qualities that Robyn has in spades, which is why she will be a credit to that office.”
When asked about her priorities as Auditor, Brewster commented on her self-made commitment to citizens.
“I consider my first responsibility as Ross County Auditor to be to the tax payers of Ross County and I am very excited to begin working for them. I promise to run the Auditor’s Office with the same transparency and integrity that Tom Spetnagel brought to the office.”
She will seek the office in the November 2022 election as the party’s nominee.
