MOSCOW, Russia — In a tit-for-tat game, the Russian government announced sanctions against U.S. President Joe Biden and several current and former high-ranking officials.
The Kremlin announced the sanctions against President Biden along with several others including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Hunter Biden.
So what do these sanctions mean? Reports say, if high-level talks are scheduled, the sanctions will prevent travel to Russia and freeze assets held there.
Analysts say the Russian economy has been severely damaged by sanctions from the European Union and the United States.
Last week, the U.S. announced a ban on all Russian energy imports. Several corporations have joined in by suspending services to the Russian Federation. Starbucks, Netflix, Disney, Pepsi, Coca-Cola, and Airbnb, are just some of the companies boycotting Russia.
Russian President Vladimir Putin told state media that the sanctions are “akin to an act of war.”
