WASHINGTON, D.C. — The first female Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, died this week, according to her family. The 84-year-old had been battling cancer.
Madeleine Albright and her family fled from the Nazis during World War 2. She would become one of the most influential people in American foreign policy.
Albright first served as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations in 1993 under the Clinton Administration. She would go on to be nominated for Secretary of State in 1997, where she served until 2001.
President Biden said regarding her death, “Madeleine Albright was a force. She defied convention and broke barriers again and again.”
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine ordered flags across the state to be lowered in honor of her life and service.
