CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A 7-year-old child was found walking down a Chillicothe street, alone on Tuesday morning.
According to the Chillicothe Police Department, Sergeant Casey Cox was flagged down by an individual on Mill Street shortly after 8:30 a.m.
Authorities say the child was seen walking by a passer-by. The child, reports say, told Sergeant Cox that they were walking to school from their residence on West Water Street.
It was around the same time that 9-1-1 dispatchers received a phone call regarding a missing child.
The little girl told police that she had left a note for her parents that said, “walking to school, I really hope you pick me up. I love you.”
Officers located the child’s mother who said that the 7-year-old had shut the alarms off at their home, and decided to walk to school.
The mother told police that the school labeled her child a “walker”, and since that time, the mother said, the little girl believes she is allowed to walk to school.
Officials say that the incident would be reported to Ross County Children’s Services after police discovered that the child had walked away from the home two previous times.
