WASHINGTON, D.C. — During a press conference today, the President reaffirmed the United States’s commitment to the Ukrainian people and the quest for peace in the region.

Today, Biden announced that the U.S. would provide Ukraine with an additional $800 million worth of military assets, including heavy artillery weapons, tactical drones, and ammunition.

In a statement, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said, “Today, as Russia begins its renewed offensive in Ukraine’s east, I have authorized, pursuant to a delegation from the President, a drawdown to provide further immediate military assistance to Ukraine.” Blinken went on to add, “We will continue to provide Ukraine the arms its forces are effectively using on the ground to defend themselves.”

Since last month, the United States has provided nearly $1 billion in aid to Ukraine.

As part of today’s press conference, the President announced the barring of “Russian-affiliated vessels” from docking in U.S. ports, as well as a new program aimed at helping to streamline the process for Ukrainian refugees to enter the United States.

The Secretary of Homeland Security said, “We are proud to deliver on President Biden’s commitment to welcome 100,000 Ukrainians and others fleeing Russian aggression to the United States. The Ukrainian people continue to suffer immense tragedy and loss as a result of Putin’s unprovoked and unjustified attack on their homeland.”
