FRANKFORT, Ohio — Law enforcement was involved in an active standoff in Ross County on Thursday.
It started Thursday morning along the 1400 block of Westfall Road near route 207 after federal agents tried serving an arrest warrant.
According to the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, upon arrival, agents located the wanted man who was armed with a shotgun. The man, reports say, barricaded himself inside a garage.
The Sheriff said agents along with the Ross-Fayette Joint Emergency Response Team, and the Chillicothe Police Department SWAT unit surrounded the building.
Negotiators were dispatched to the scene in an attempt to end the standoff peacefully.
After several hours the SWAT team made entry into the structure. It was there, the Sheriff said, they found the suspect dead inside the garage. The cause of death was not immediately released.
An investigation into the incident is still ongoing, officials said.
Authorities say, no law enforcement officers fired any shots during the stand-off. The name of the individual involved was not disclosed at this time, pending notification of the next-of-kin.
