COLUMBUS, Ohio — U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced on Thursday that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded two grants to an airport and a university located in Central Ohio, totaling $1,054,659. The funds will be used to help make necessary repairs to airports and their critical infrastructure.
“Ohio airports are vital infrastructure supporting travel and commerce in our state,” said Brown. “These investments will provide Central Ohio airports with the resources they need to ensure the safety of their passengers and support the local economy for years to come.”
DOT funds include:
- $750,000 grant to The Ohio State University Airport to construct a 515-foot taxi lane that will allow planes to navigate between hangers.
- $304,659 grant to Grimes Field Airport to rehabilitate two 570-foot taxi lanes, help with construction expenses, and extend the lanes’ useful lives.
The FAA supports public-use airports included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) through the Airport Improvement Program. The program supports projects that improve airport safety, capacity, security and environmental impact. More information about the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program can be found here.
