HIGHLAND COUNTY, Ohio — A Memorial Day outing ended with a scare on Sunday in Paint Creek State Park.

It happened on Cave Road at around 2 p.m. near The Appalachia Museum and Memorial Trail.

Rescue personnel was dispatched to a water rescue deep into the woods. Once they arrived, they found a small group of people on the edge of a cliff near the water, about 100 feet down.

The people appeared to be in distress, but overall, alright, personnel said.

A boat was launched in the water nearby by rescue crews to try and get the individuals off the cliff. Crews were contemplating if they needed to call in a grain bin-rope-climbing rescue team to assist.

No names have been released.
