PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office said a man crashed through their route 23 access gate and fled the scene. The access gate officials say is used by emergency personnel to get from the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office property to route 23.
On May 31, detectives found surveillance footage of a dark blue Honda CRV that drove through the gate shortly before 7 a.m. The driver, officials say, got out of the vehicle, moved the broken gate of the way, and sped off.
The driver was identified as 36-year-old Christopher T. Tanner of Circleville.
According to Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey, detectives and deputies went to the man’s last known address and located the blue Honda CRV and the suspect.
During the investigation, the Sheriff said Christopher Tanner ran his vehicle through the gate after going to the Circleville Walmart, stealing a woman’s cell phone and cashing it in at an EcoATM. Tanner admitted to the theft and crashed through the access gate.
He was transported to the Pickaway County Jail. Authorities say he was charged with felony vandalism and misdemeanor theft.
