PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Yesterday, in a collaborative effort with the office of U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Verizon, Shawnee State University began hosting two simultaneous summer manufacturing camps. The purpose of these camps will be to help teach Scioto County students about manufacturing, teamwork, and local production facilities.
One camp, which involves the local sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students, follows the theme of “Verizon STEM Achievers.” The other camp, which involves local high school students, follows the theme of “Bear Tracks.” Students in both camps will be afforded the opportunity to learn about local careers, tour manufacturing facilities, and hear from experts. During these camps, students will engage in team-building exercises, learn how products are made, and work on a project specific to Scioto County.
“The camps will help students around Ohio learn about manufacturing jobs right here in Ohio and the proud history of opportunities our manufacturing sector has created for their parents and grandparents,” stated Sen. Brown.
The camp officially began on Monday, June 6, and will last until Friday, June 24. It will continue to take place daily at Shawnee State University’s Morris University Center in Portsmouth from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
