COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two counties in the Scioto Valley will receive marijuana dispensaries after the state issued a second round of permits for the second time in its history.

It happened by the Ohio Board of Pharmacy and includes 70 licenses being issued throughout the state. Among them, are dispensaries in Waverly and Jeffersonville.

“Big Perm’s Dispensary Ohio” will be located on McArthur Road in Jeffersonville, while “Southern Ohio Botanicals” will be along route 23 in Waverly. The licenses to operate were part of a lottery that took place earlier this year.

In other areas across the state in the Scioto Valley, several places were not awarded a license.

Five applications were submitted in Chillicothe, which already has one medical dispensary along Bridge Street. The proposed sites included Marietta Road, Hopetown Road, and Western Avenue. In Pickaway County, four applications were submitted for Circleville, mostly including locations along Court Street and route 23, while a total of nine applications were filed for dispensaries in Pike County, with the majority to line route 23.

House Bill 523, effective on September 8, 2016, legalized medical marijuana in Ohio. The Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program allows people with certain medical conditions, upon the recommendation of an Ohio-licensed physician certified by the State Medical Board, to purchase and use medical marijuana.
