DAYTON, Ohio — Today, the Whaley/Stephens for Ohio campaign is calling on Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Attorney General Dave Yost to apologize for their role in calling into question the validity of a story about a 10-year-old girl who was raped and had to travel to Indiana to receive an abortion, due to Ohio’s six-week abortion ban. Reportedly, earlier this afternoon, an arrest has been made in connection with the case.
According to the sources, Governor DeWine’s team attempted to discredit the girl’s story, while Attorney General Dave Yost went on FOX News to “raise further doubts” about her claims.
In response, Whaley/Stephens for Ohio Communications Director Courtney Rice called on Governor DeWine and Attorney General Yost to immediately apologize for spreading this falsehood and retraumatizing this victim:
“Rather than dealing with the awful repercussions of their abortion ban, Governor DeWine, Attorney General Yost, and their staffs chose to attack a 10-year-old rape survivor. They should be ashamed of themselves, and have once again shown that they are unfit to lead our state. They owe this little girl, her family, and every Ohioan an apology. Ohio deserves better than these callous politicians.”
