CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A body was found in a tote late-Tuesday night in Chillicothe.

Detectives responded to a house on Poplar Street after they received a call that a decomposed body was inside a large tote. Reports state that family members of the homeowner were there cleaning up the property while one of the residents was incarcerated in jail on unrelated charges. During their cleanup efforts, they opened the tote inside a garage and found the body.

Sources close to the investigation told the Guardian that the body was so badly decomposed that they could not positively identify the remains. However, the property was once the subject of a search warrant earlier this summer by detectives in connection to the disappearance of a local man named Larry Davis. Davis, 48, was last seen alive on March 4 near the city’s floodwall. Family reported him missing to the police after they had not heard from him in days.

Law enforcement launched an all-out search for the man, including using aviation units and dive teams to search the Scioto River around the Chillicothe area. Tips eventually led them to the house on Poplar Street where detectives searched a garage earlier this summer. Inside, they found Davis’ cell phone and bookbag, but no signs of the missing man, himself. Fast forward to Tuesday of this week, and police were called to the same garage, this time, for a tote with a body inside found by family members of the homeowner. The Guardian has not been able to confirm the identity of the human remains and law enforcement said the body has been sent for an autopsy in Montgomery County for positive identification.

The man who lives at the home is locked up in the county jail on unrelated charges.
