STAMFORD, Connecticut — One of the biggest names in the world of sports entertainment announced that he would be retiring.
77-year-old Vince McMahon, Chairman and CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment announced via Twitter that he would be retiring.
“At 77, time for me to retire. Thank you, WWE Universe”.
McMahon has been on leave amid a hush-money scandal. According to the Wall Street Journal, McMahon has been under investigation by the WWE’s board of directors after the wrestling billionaire agreed to a $3 million settlement with a former employee that McMahon allegedly had an affair with.
In his absence, daughter Stephanie McMahon, has filled in as interim CEO of the company.
Over the decades, Vince McMahon elevated individuals such as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and John Cena to mega stardom.
At the time of this publication the WWE had yet to release an official statement.
