ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — The trial for a Ross County woman accused of being involved in a conspiracy to cover up the death of an elderly woman in order to collect her social security checks is scheduled for Tuesday.

39-year-old Anna Mead was indicted by a Ross County Grand Jury on May 6 following an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and state fire investigators.

Mead is facing 2 counts of abuse of a corpse; 1 count of aggravated arson; 1 count of tampering with evidence; 1 count of failure to report a death; and 1 count of theft.

Court records say that Mead had created a conspiracy to steal the social security of 86-year-old Norma Grubb following her death in October of 2021. Mead allegedly kept the deceased woman’s body covered up in a bedroom while continuing to collect social security checks in her name.

Detectives say, Mead continued the plot from October to December of 2021.

Investigators say that during that time, the home belonging to Grubb was set on fire to cover up the death.

If convicted, Mead could spend the next decade behind bars. She is currently incarcerated at the Ross County Jail and remains in custody on a $50,000 bond.
