PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — New details have been released in the shooting death of an alleged intruder in Pickaway county.
Earlier this week, deputies were dispatched to Thrailkill Road after a 9-1-1 caller said they had shot a possible intruder. Multiple units, including medics, responded to the scene, where they found 26-year-old Richard Taylor, Jr., dead of multiple gunshot wounds.
According to statements, the homeowner and their adult-son were asleep upstairs when they heard someone inside the house.
According to new details, a vehicle alleged to have belonged to Taylor crashed in the driveway. After the crash, Taylor reportedly went inside the house through a side door, said deputies.
The homeowner told investigators they were asleep at the time when they were awoken by a loud commotion. The homeowner said they looked downstairs and witnessed their son shooting the alleged intruder on the stairs of the tri-level home.
The son reported that he was in his room asleep when he heard a loud crash. The son went to the window and seen that his work truck had been hit by a white vehicle. He went on to say that he grabbed his firearm and went to wake his parents.
“Resident …. stated that she was awoke to her son …. yelling telling her that someone had crashed in the side yard and someone is coming in the house. [She] stated she jumped out of bed and went out of bedroom at top of stairs and seen someone on their stairs. [She] stated that her son …. was yelling at the person “Stop!” and the male kept coming up the stairs then he son started shooting,” deputies wrote on their report. “[She] stated that the male wouldn’t stop coming up the steps and her Son shot some more, then the male went down the steps and she lost sight of him … . [she] stated that the male did not say anything, that he kept growling at them as he was coming up the stairs.”
Taylor reportedly fell down the steps and retreated to a nearby door-way where he died. The people inside the house went to a bedroom and dialed 9-1-1 until deputies arrived. Deputies reported that a side door to the house had appeared to be forced open, alluding that Taylor broke in.
Outside the house, deputies and BCI agents conducted a search of the wrecked vehicle. Inside, they found a 9mm handgun on the driver side floorboard and a clear plastic bag in the center console which contained dehydrated mushrooms.
The Sheriff’s Office said, “The mushrooms were whitish-gray which I suspected them to possibly be Psilocybin Mushrooms based off appearance. All evidence was collected by …BCI …. and released to our office.”
The case remains under investigation.
