CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A hit-and-run in Chillicothe left a woman in serious condition.
The incident happened early Friday morning, shortly before 2 a.m.
According to the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and medics responded to the 800 block of Eastern Avenue after a 9-1-1 caller said a woman had been run over by a vehicle.
Reports say the victim was attempting to break up a fight in the parking lot of a local bar when a black Kia quickly reversed, and then drove forward, hitting the victim and dragging her down the roadway.
The victim, 32-year-old Cassandra Withrow was transported by medics to Adena Regional Medical Center and later airlifted to Grant Hospital in Columbus with serious injuries. The Sheriff’s Office said the victim was suffering from several broken bones, including, according to the report, a possible broken pelvis.
Deputies said the driver of the Kia returned to the scene and stated that “they did not hit anyone”.
Sergeant Champion of the Sheriff’s Office said he “observed an imprint on the dirt of the hood of the car that was consistent with a person having been pushed up against it. There were marks that appeared to be hand prints that had slid on the hood of the car. “
Detectives were called to the scene to continue the investigation. The car was impounded and searched for any additional evidence. No charges, officials say, have been filed at this time.
The case remains under investigation.
