PIKE COUNTY, Ohio — A Waverly man is behind bars after authorities say he ran from law enforcement and then barricaded himself inside a residence.

According to Pike County Sheriff Tracy Evans, deputies responded to the 700 block of Hackleshin Road on Tuesday after residents reported a man knocking on their doors.

Deputies, the sheriff said, arrived on the scene and attempted to detain 22-year-old Austin Humphrey. Reports say Humphrey put up a fight, injuring one deputy in the process. He then fled the scene on foot and ran into a nearby residence, barricading himself inside.

Additional deputies as well as officers from the Waverly and Piketon Police Departments, and troopers with the Ohio Highway Patrol were requested to assist.

Sheriff Evans said that after several attempts to have Humphrey voluntarily leave the home, the decision was made to make forced entry inside.

Authorities say he was apprehended without further incident.

Austin Humphrey, records show, was previously wanted for outstanding warrants. He was transported to the Scioto County Jail, where he remains in custody. Additional charges in the case are pending approval by the Pike County Prosecutor’s Office.
