WASHINGTON, D.C. — GOP Senator Lindsey Graham announced the introduction of a bill that would effectively ban all late-term abortions.
The bill, dubbed the “Graham Abortion Ban” would make abortions illegal at 15 weeks.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre released a statement saying, “Republicans in Congress are focused on taking rights away from millions of women.”
President Biden reaffirmed his commitment to see the federal protection of abortion rights restored.
In July, The United States House of Representatives passed the “Women’s Health Protection Act.” The bill passed by a slim margin in the House but failed to garner necessary support in the Senate.
This week, a Hamilton County Judge temporarily halted Ohio’s “Heartbeat Law.” The law, signed by Governor Mike DeWine in April of 2019 effectively banned all abortions in the state. The law took effect with the overturning of Roe vs. Wade. The ACLU of Ohio has filed a lawsuit that led to a 14-day restraining order, temporarily allowing abortions in the state.
Experts say that “Graham’s Abortion Ban” will likely fail in the current Democrat-controlled Congress.
