ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio — An Athens County man will serve the next several years behind bars for setting his ex-girlfriend’s home on fire.

42-year-old Raymond Brooks was sentenced this week by Judge Patrick Lang to 8 to 12 years in prison for aggravated arson, burglary, and vandalism.

According to investigators, in November of 2020, Brooks set fire to his ex-girlfriend’s home on fire and paid another man, Jarrod Losey, 23, of Mount Vernon, to help him carry out the crimes.

Losey was previously sentenced to five years of community control.

Upon Brooks’s release from prison, he will also be placed on post-release control.
