COLUMBUS, Ohio — A motorist is lucky to be alive today thanks to a Franklin County deputy.
According to the sheriff’s office, a 9-1-1 call came in Thursday afternoon regarding a vehicle that had went into the water at Alton Darby Creek near the area of Walker Road.
Reports say the vehicle was filling with water and the motorist was unable to open their car doors. A patrol deputy arrived on the scene and jumped into action.
Deputy Thacker waded out into the frigid water, breaking the rear passenger window, and unlocking the door.
The deputy, the sheriff’s office said, was able to pull the driver from the vehicle and bring them safely ashore. The driver was later transported to the hospital where they remain in stable condition.
