CINCINNATI, Ohio — The sports world watched in shock as NFL star Damar Hamlin was rushed from the field, in the middle of a game, to a Cincinnati hospital.
The Buffalo Bills were in Cincinnati for a matchup with the Bengals. During the first quarter, Hamlin can be seen taking a hard hit. As soon as the safety stood up, he immediately collapsed to the ground.
NFL officials say CPR was performed on Hamlin prior to medics responding to the field.
Hamlin was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in critical condition.
In a statement released by the NFL, a spokesperson said, “The Buffalo Bills-Cincinnati Bengals game has been postponed after Buffalo Bills’ Damar Hamlin collapsed, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced. Hamlin received immediate medical attention on the field by team and independent medical staff and local paramedics. He was then transported to a local hospital where he is in critical condition. Our thoughts are with Damar and the Buffalo Bills. We will provide more information as it becomes available. The NFL has been in constant communication with the NFL Players Association which is in agreement with postponing the game.”
Hamlin remains intubated and in critical condition.
