GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio — On Monday evening, the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a tense armed standoff with a barricaded individual on Swisher Hill Road, near Little Kyger Road.
According to reports, deputies were dispatched to the scene shortly after 5 p.m. in response to reports that a man, later identified as 40-year-old Ronald Paul Jones had threatened a woman with a gun at the residence. Deputies from the sheriff’s office arrived on the scene and encountered Jones who then brandished the firearm at law enforcement. Reports say he then fled back into the mobile home and barricaded himself inside.
Law enforcement deployed several rounds of tear gas to smoke the individual out, but he refused to leave the residence.
The situation escalated as shots were heard coming from the home around 7:38 p.m.
Deputies, reports say, took cover and called for medics with the Gallipolis Fire Department to be placed on standby.
In an effort to resolve the situation, a SWAT team from Washington County arrived at the scene to assist in the operation at 8:30 p.m.
Multiple armored vehicles (BearCats), authorities said, were utilized.
Shortly before 11 p.m., Ronald Jones was taken into custody after entry was made into the home.
