Roger LaVerne Shaffer, age 84 of Lynchburg, passed away Thursday morning January 26, 2023 at the Highland District Hospital. 

He was born October 29, 1938 in Hillsboro, the son of the late Orin LaVerne and Hazel Winona (Thompson) Shaffer. 

He was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, was a member of Lynchburg Masonic Lodge #178, was a member of the Sons of The American Revolution and was a veteran of the United States Air Force.  Mr. Shaffer owned and operated Robinson Motor Custom Tire from 1969 to 1984, and was a Civil Engineer at Wright Patterson Air Force Base from 1984 to 2015.  Roger had also served as the Mayor of Lynchburg as well as the President of Council for several years. 

He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Sandra Lee (Wisecup) Shaffer, whom he had married on August 21, 1970 in Lynchburg.  He is also survived by four children, Britta Shaffer, Dodi Shaffer (Eric) McAllister, Jeremy (Stephanie) Shaffer and Nicholas (Cassidy) Shaffer; ten grandchildren, Robert Garringer, Andrew Zabel, Ethan Shaffer, Joshua Shaffer, Marianna Shaffer, Meela Shaffer, Anissa Shaffer, Faith Eyre, Hope Eyre and Isaac Eyre; and two great grandchildren Calvin Zabel and Poppianne Garringer. 

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no services at this time.  A celebration of his life and burial at the Lynchburg Masonic Cemetery will take place at a later date.
