Jack Charles Sawyer, age 76, of Hillsboro, passed away Monday February 6, 2023, at his home with his wife by his side.
He was born on September 20, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of the late Charles W. Sawyer and Mary (Garrett) Sawyer.
Jack believed his greatest achievement was his military service to his country. He proudly served in the United States Army, and during his tour in Vietnam, he earned two Bronze Stars with “V” Device for his devotion to duty and his personal bravery. He was inducted into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame for Valor in 2007.
He worked in sales for over 30 years and retired from the Frito-Lay Company. Jack attended the Living Hope Pentecostal Church, House of Deliverance, and the Hillsboro Church of God. He enjoyed target shooting, taking road trips to Amish Country and Gatlinburg, TN, and living in the country with his wife, Angie and his beloved dog, Maggie. He will be greatly missed.
Jack is survived by his wife of 35 years, Angie Kay Scott Sawyer whom he married on October 3, 1987; five grandchildren, Nathan Blevins, Jessica Miller, Makayla Miller, Rebekah Sawyer, Moriah Hope Sawyer, two great grandchildren, and four “adopted” grandchildren, Danielle Wright, Isaiah Wright, Elizabeth Williams, and Serena Williams; a sister, Sheila Elam of Mason; “adopted” son, Darrell (Angie) Williams Jr.; father and mother-in-law, Gary and Beverly Scott of Waynesville; sister-in-law, Michelle (Darryl) Dotson of Miamisburg; son-in-law, Mike Miller of Cincinnati; niece, Natalie Dotson and nephew, Darren Dotson; great niece, Kamari; great nephew, Kyren, and his best friend, Freddie (Cheryl) Moore of Hillsboro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three children, his 5-year-old son, Ethan Scott Sawyer in 1995, his 47-year-old son, Jack Charles Sawyer II in 2019, and his 52-year-old daughter, Shawna Miller in 2022.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday February 10, 2023, at the Hillsboro Church of God, 5760 US 62, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133, with the funeral service immediately following at 1:00 p.m. Burial, with military honors presented by the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard, will follow services in the Union Chapel Cemetery on Taylorsville Road.
The Sawyer family would like to invite everyone for food and fellowship following burial at the Union Church of Christ, 3021 N Taylorsville Rd., Hillsboro, Ohio 45133.
