WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Joe Biden delivered his second “State of the Union” address yesterday evening to a joint session of Congress.
Biden focused his speech on several key issues while touting job growth under his administration. “My economic plan is about investing in places and people that have been forgotten,” said the President. “Amid the economic upheaval of the past four decades too many people have been left behind or treated like they’re invisible. Maybe that’s you watching at home. You remember the jobs that went away. And you wonder whether a path even exists anymore for you and your children to get ahead without moving away. I get it. That’s why we’re building an economy where no one is left behind. Jobs are coming back; pride is coming back because of the choices we made in the last two years. This is a blue-collar blueprint to rebuild America and make a real difference in your lives.”
According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, the country’s unemployment rate has dropped to the lowest levels in nearly 50 years.
A spotlight was shown once again on the Buckeye State as the President mentioned the new Intel factory being built in Licking County. The new plant will bring 10,000 new jobs to the central Ohio area. In September, Biden along with Ohio Governor Mike DeWine attended a groundbreaking ceremony at the future site.
The President received applause from both sides of the aisle when he announced new standards for all new federal infrastructure projects.
“Tonight, I’m also announcing new standards to require all construction materials used in federal infrastructure projects to be made in America. American-made lumber, glass, drywall, and fiber optic cables. And on my watch, American roads, American bridges, and American highways will be made with American products.”
Democrats cheered Biden’s address while others across the isles took the opportunity to make railing accusations against the President. Texas Senator Ted Cruz took to Twitter calling the speech, “angry, divisive, and fundamentally dishonest.”
Ohio Representative Brad Wenstrup issued a statement saying, “Two years into office, it is clear that President Biden does not have a cure for what ails our country. Instead of bringing people together and working in a bipartisan fashion, Mr. Biden continues to divide Americans with his progressive, far-left policies and demonization of conservatives. The people of southern Ohio, like all Americans, are concerned about their cost of living going way up, government borrowing and overspending, deaths by illicit drugs, the illegal human invasions across our borders, our weakened military, and an emboldened, adversarial China. All of these concerns are directly related to Biden’s policies, actions, and in some cases, inactions.
Democratic House Whip Katherine Clark said, “Tonight, President Biden highlighted for the American people what’s possible when families are front and center in Washington. Under his leadership, Democrats in Congress pulled our nation from the darkest days of the pandemic into a period of renewed opportunity – with 12 million new jobs, the lowest unemployment rate in half a century, and wage growth that is now outpacing inflation. We enacted transformative investments in clean energy and our nation’s infrastructure, saved the childcare sector, jumpstarted U.S. manufacturing, honored America’s commitment to our veterans, slashed health care costs for our seniors, and took action against the scourge of gun violence. Instead of building on this historic success, the MAGA Majority is putting politics over the American people – waging a dangerous assault on reproductive freedom, sticking up for the wealthy and well-connected, and risking economic catastrophe. While Republicans have proven that they care about their own power above all else, Democrats will never walk away from the fight for working families.”
