ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — Adena Regional Medical Center witnessed a dramatic scene last week as an inmate attempted to escape from the hospital. Ronnie Pettiford, Jr., who was serving time at the Ross County Jail on theft charges and probation violation, was transported to Adena Regional Medical Center for possible injury to his ribs.
As he waited to be seen by a doctor, Pettiford asked to use the bathroom, where he was accompanied by Capt. Glenn Detty and a nurse. However, as soon as he opened the bathroom door, Pettiford made a run for it. Capt. Detty and the nurse immediately gave chase, and a deputy was able to grab Pettiford from behind, causing both of them to fall to the floor. Despite this, Pettiford got back up and continued to run, knocking down a hospital employee along the way.
The chase eventually led to Pettiford being cornered, at which point he gave up. He was escorted back to his room in the ER, where he was treated and released back to the Ross County Jail.
