WASHINGTON, D.C. — As the world marks one year since the brutal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine by the Russian government, the United States is stepping up its support for Ukraine. The people of Ukraine have shown boundless courage and resilience, and the international community stands in solidarity with them.
In a statement, the State Department announced that it has authorized the 32nd drawdown of U.S. arms and equipment for Ukraine since August 2021, valued at $450 million. This security assistance package includes more ammunition for U.S.-provided HIMARS and Howitzers that Ukraine is using to defend their country, as well as more Javelins, anti-armor systems, and air surveillance radars. In addition, an additional $10 million will be provided to support emergency assistance to keep Ukraine’s energy infrastructure up and running in the face of Russia’s relentless missile and drone attacks.
“Russia alone could end its war today,” said the State Department. “Until it does so, we will stand united with Ukraine for as long as it takes to strengthen its military on the battlefield so that they will be in the strongest possible position at any future negotiating table.”
The United States has been rallying the world to support Ukraine, and more than 50 countries have come together in solidarity with Ukraine as it defends its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“We applaud the incredible solidarity from our allies and partners,” the State Department said.
The State Department’s announcement comes as tensions between Ukraine and Russia remain high.
“We remain committed to our partnership with Ukraine, and to supporting Ukraine’s efforts to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the State Department said. “The people of Ukraine deserve to live in peace, security, and freedom.”
