CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A family has filed a lawsuit against a Chillicothe nursing home saying that negligence played a contributing role in their loved one’s death.

The family of Goldie M. Baker filed a nearly $1 million suit this month against Signature Healthcare, located at 60 Marietta Road.

The complaint obtained by the Guardian, alleges that the nursing home failed to provide proper medical care to the resident and that their actions or lack of them led to the death of Goldie Baker.

Baker, who died on September 29, 2020, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, was a long-term resident at the facility. An autopsy report says Baker suffered from atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease but also had several other injuries, including “blunt-force injury to the head and a leg fracture.”

In the court filing, an attorney for the family states, “ That while under the exclusive care of the Defendants, individually and/or by and through their agents, employees, servants, officers, and/or directors, Decedent, Goldie M. Baker, was caused to suffer numerous severe and permanent injuries, she was caused to suffer fatal injuries, she was permitted to become very ill, her illness was not treated properly, her physical condition was permitted to deteriorate, and she died, as a direct and proximate result of the negligence, recklessness, willful and wanton conduct, and/or actual malice of the Defendants, individually and/or by and through their agents, employees, servants, officers, and/or directors.”

The nursing facility has not issued a statement or responded to the complaint per a public records inquiry.

The Guardian reached out to an attorney for the family for comment. At the time of this publication, they have yet to respond.
