Virginia Mae Deering Ferguson, 98, of Waverly, Ohio passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children on March 1, 2023 at Pickaway Manor, Circleville, Ohio.
She was born August 25, 1924 in Waverly, Ohio daughter of the late Erven Barch and Grace Detty Barch of Waverly.
Surviving are her children, Marilyn (Ed) Hatfield of Circleville, Don Lyon, Dixie (Steve) Wright of Waverly and Mike Lyon of Chillicothe; 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren, special friend and neighbor, Claire Carrier, and sister-in-law, Betty Barch.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Rev. Ernest Ferguson and husband Richard “Dick” Deering, her siblings, Ivan “Speak” Barch, Juanita “June” Pfeifer, brother-in-law, Hollis Pfeifer, daughter-in-law, Anna Lyon and grandson, Rohn Sitjar.
Virginia graduated from Waverly High School, Class of 1942. She worked at the old Chillicothe Hospital and retired from Pike County Hospital. She enjoyed spending time with her family and being involved in their lives as much as she could. Many of the “great and great-great” grandchildren, affectionately called her “grandma Kissy”. Virginia had been a faithful member of McKibban Memorial/New Covenant Church since 1957.
Funeral services will be 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly with Rev. Lonnie Potts officiating. Family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Evergreen Union Cemetery on Bridge Street in Waverly.
