Mary E. Slater, age 79, of Hillsboro, passed away Saturday March 4, 2023, at her home with her family by her side.

She was born on June 19, 1943, in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Herman Hugh Piatt and Mary Katherine (Hollen) McKinney.

Mary loved being a mother and raising her three children. She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, mushroom hunting, camping, traveling, and all animals, especially her dogs. She loved her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren, she will be greatly missed.

Mary is survived by her husband of 60 years, James “Jim” Slater whom she married on September 14, 1962; three children, Theresa Slater of Hillsboro, James (Becky) Slater of Winchester, and Dee Slater of Milford; fourteen grandchildren, Jeffery Slater, Dustin (Tamara Baughey) Slater, Daniel Slater, James Slater, Chloe Slater, Tabatha (James) Carver, Tiffany (Seth) Turner, Austin (Santana Light) Deatherage, Cody (Katherine Allen) Slater, Brandunn Smith, Megan Smith, Caleb Smith, Tessa Black, and Ava Black; two great grandchildren, Reillie Carver and Damien Allen; three siblings, Buford Piatt of New Richmond, Ruby Piatt of New Vienna,  Linda (Mike) Walls of Sabina, and several nieces, nephews, step siblings, and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Thomas Slater; a grandson, Jonathan Slater; stepfather, Leon McKinney, and a son-in-law, Ché Black.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Thursday March 9, 2023, at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. following visitation on March 9th. Burial will be held in the Clinton County Memory Gardens following the funeral service.
