CINCINNATI, Ohio — The US Postal Service has launched a new set of stamps celebrating the history and nostalgia of train travel. Called the Railroad Stations Forever stamps, the collection features five iconic American train stations.
At a dedication ceremony held at Cincinnati Union Terminal, one of the stations featured in the series, USPS Board of Governors member Dan Tangherlini said that all five stations had stories of persistence and sub-plots involving dedicated people working to save them.
The stamps have been released with the hashtag #RailroadStationsStamps.
All five stations featured on the stamps are listed in the US Department of the Interior’s National Register of Historic Places.
The Cincinnati Union Terminal opened during the Great Depression and has survived to become a National Historic Landmark. The other stations featured are Pennsylvania’s Tamaqua Station, which was built in 1874, Maryland’s Point of Rocks Station, built in 1873, Michigan’s Grand Central Station, built in 1913, and Washington’s Union Station, built in 1907.
