GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is scheduled to visit Vinton Elementary School on Friday, March 31, 2023, at 10 a.m. to observe and discuss the implementation of the Science of Reading program in its classrooms.
The Science of Reading is a research-based method of teaching reading that focuses on phonics, phonemic awareness, and decoding skills. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is a strong proponent of the program and has made it a priority to promote literacy in Ohio schools.
During the visit, Governor DeWine will meet with school officials, teachers, and students to discuss the Science of Reading and how it has positively impacted the students’ reading skills. He will also observe how the program is being taught in the classroom and the impact it is having on student achievement.
The visit is part of Governor DeWine’s ongoing efforts to improve literacy rates in Ohio and ensure that all students have the tools they need to succeed in reading and beyond. The governor has made it a priority to invest in programs that promote literacy and ensure that Ohio students are prepared for success in the 21st century.
