CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — School officials in Circleville, contacted law enforcement on Wednesday evening after a photo circulated on Snapchat with a serious threat directed at Circleville High School. The situation was forwarded to Ohio Homeland Security (OHS) for further investigation by the School Resource Officer.

According to the OHS team, the photo was from an initial post in 2018 that originated in New Mexico and has surfaced a number of times since then, with each instance linked back to the original post that was proven to be a hoax.

Despite the determination that the threat was not credible, school officials emphasized that any threats of violence are taken very seriously, and the safety of students and staff is their top priority. School officials said there will be an increased police presence on campus on Thursday, April 6th.

Officials took the opportunity to remind students about the importance of reporting any suspicious or potentially threatening activity to an adult as soon as possible. They also expressed gratitude for the cooperation and assistance of the Circleville City Police Department, Ohio Homeland Security, staff, and students, and reiterated their commitment to providing a safe environment where each student can achieve their maximum potential.
