CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — On April 4, 2023, authorities responded to a domestic violence incident at 674 E 4th St where a female was found bleeding from her head. The suspect, Adam Corey, was found holding a towel on her head, while both were in an excited and panicked state.

The victim, who called the authorities, stated that Corey hit her with a croquette mallet, but Corey denied it and claimed that they were wrestling when she started to bleed. Corey also accused the victim of throwing his belongings into the yard.

The police photographed the scene and found a red bat in the doorway and a hatchet on the couch, but the croquette mallet mentioned by the victim was not found. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment, where she reported that the incident started when she saw notifications from a female on Corey’s phone and became upset, leading to an argument that turned physical. She claimed that Corey straddled her neck in the mudroom and hit her with the mallet twice, causing her to fall to the ground and bleed.

The police detained Corey and advised him of his Miranda Rights. While they were inside the residence, Corey, police say, complained of chest pain and was transported to the hospital. Meanwhile, the victim was treated for injuries that were photographed. Reports state that the victim was adamant that she was hit with the croquette mallet and denied that she had a hatchet in the incident.

Corey was later arrested and taken to the Ross County Jail, where he was charged with felonious assault. National statistics show that domestic violence is a prevalent issue in the United States, with one in four women and one in nine men experiencing severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime. Local resources and hotlines are available for victims of domestic violence to seek help and support.
