CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A harrowing incident unfolded in Ross County on Sunday evening when a 3-year-old child was struck by a car.

Troopers from the Chillicothe Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol are currently investigating the incident which occurred around 8:10 PM on Stoney Creek Road.

According to authorities, the 2009 Pontiac Vibe, driven by 20-year-old Laikin Tarlton of Chillicothe, collided with the child who attempted to cross the road.

First responders from Jefferson Township, along with the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, arrived at the scene to assist.

The child was subsequently airlifted to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus for urgent medical attention. Thankfully, the child’s injuries were not life-threatening, said troopers.

Tarlton was uninjured in the incident. Route 23 was closed for almost an hour while the injured child was transported to the hospital via MedFlight.
